– Type Tamil online through any web browser like IE, Safari Chrome etc.
– Type characters and hit space bar button

Advantages of Option 2:
– Just type in on sound based english…and hit space button..it is instantly converted to Tamil. Example Type. Amma and press space bar button you get ” அம்மா.
– No Internet required.
– Works on any applications like word, excel, mail, notepad or ie etc.
– Auto suggestion as you type
– No need 3rd party writer apps
Installation instructions
For Windows 7/Vista follow A + B + C procedures.
For Windows XP follow A + D + E procedures

A) Installation :

1) Visit Link : http://www.google.com/ime/transliteration/index.html
2) Choose your Language & Press Button “Download Google IME”
3) Save The file
4) Double Click/Open the downloaded file
5) Installation will start(Google Tamil input Installer). Internet connectivity is mandatory for installing the full keyboard application. Might take 10~15 minutes depends on internet speed.
6) Select “I Accept the Terms of use ” End user License Agreement”(A)”
7) Press “Next Button”
8) Press “Finish Button”

B) Configuration for Windows 7/Vista, (Enabling the Language Bar)

A shortcut key sequence can be applied to the IME as follows which can be used to quickly enable IME for any in-focus application:
9.1) Control Panel -> Regional and Language Options -> Keyboard and Languages tab
9.2) Click on Change keyboards… button to open Text services and input languages dialog
9.3) Navigate to Language Bar tab
9.4) Enable the radio button Docked in the taskbar under Language Bar section
9.5) Apply all settings and try to display language bar as mentioned in previous section.

10.1 Control Panel -> Regional and Language Options -> Keyboard and Languages tab
10.2 Click on Change keyboards… button to open Text services and input languages dialog
10.3 Navigate to Advanced Key Settings tab
10.4 If Google <Language> Input is not listed in Installed Services box, then click Add and in Add Input language dialog box, go to the language for which you want to enable IME in the languages tree and expand the node. Check the checkbox next to Google <Language> Input in the list.
10.5 In Hot keys for input languages Select To <Language> – Google <Language> Input
10.6 Press Change Key Sequence
10.7 Select Enable Key Sequence
10.8 Set option like Ctrl + 0 (For English), or Ctrl + 1 (Tamil). When you press the keypads will change.
10.9 Apply all changes
11.0 Now opening an any application like notepad/Word/Excel/Internet and pressing Ctrl+1 should open the Tamil

D) Configuration Setup for Windows XP:

9.1) Go to Control Panel -> Regional and Language Options -> Languages tab -> Text services and input languages (Details) -> Advanced Tab
9.2) Make sure that under System configuration, option Turn off advanced text services is NOT checked.
9.3) Go to Control Panel -> Regional and Language Options -> Languages tab -> Text services and input languages (Details) -> Settings Tab
9.4) Click Language Bar
9.5) Select Show the Language bar on the desktop. Click OK.
9.6) If you are installing the IME for East Asian language or Right-To-Left language, go to Control Panel -> Regional and Language Options -> Languages Tab
9.7) Make sure that options Install files for complex scripts and right to left languages and Install files for East Asian languages are checked in the checkboxes. This requires installation of system files and the system will prompt to insert the Operating System Disc.
9.8) Apply all settings and try to display language bar as mentioned in previous section.

How to use.
– After setup, open any application like IE, Firefox, Word, Notepad or Excel.
– Press you shortcut key.
– i.e Ctrl+0 or Ctrl+1 to change between languages.
– As you type, you get suggestions as well complete youself..if you suggestions are not there.
– Anytime change the typed characters by using cursor and backspace/delete buttons.
