Rural Children Library Development and Che Guvera

“I must say I find television very educational. The minute somebody turns it on, I go to the library and read a good book.”

“The library is the temple of learning, and learning has liberated more people than all the wars in history.

“Read a book for few hours to get years of experience”.

This weekend, I had a wonderful opportunity as a Guest Story Teller. I have shared few moral stories  with the students/children’s of Alphonsa library Mathur, Don Bosco library Basin Bridge, and Children from Shelter home.

These libraries are privately managed by Advesa Charitable Trust, an organization managed by Dr.Shanti, a Managing Trustee, Mr.M.Chidambaram, Retired Librarian  and Mr.R Subramaniam, Advocate.

I did browse the library and found lot of interesting books for children on languages, stories,  games and computers, There are 4 DELL computers & Kids games contributed by many volunteers.

On 30.04.2011, Advesa Trust celebrated its 3rd anniversary day of it’s initiative. The program was organized at a beautiful location in North Chennai. Jeevodaya, a Hospice for cancer patients, a care centre having 50 bed capacity where advanced cancer patients are taken care.

It is a lovely environment with an exhibition hall, which educates about causes for cancer and how to prevent.

Chief guest of the event was Dr.Soma Guhathakurta, research doctor at frontierlifeline hospitals. Beside my story telling, entertaining guest performance was performed by MacTrics a MIME group, lead by Victor Jayaraj & his team of Mummers, who performed Charlie Chaplin style silent dramas.

On story telling side, I gave stories in Tamil mainly on animals  which emphasizes good character and moral values. Co-incidentally this event remembered me the revolution leader Che Guvera on whom I have shared a story based on life and education.

Many of us know that Che Guvera was an Argentinean citizen who studied medicine a Doctor, since childhood he always shown interest in traveling to countries and  knowing the current affairs of the other countries, specially of undeveloped countries.

He fought for revolutionizing & eliminating western dominated  capitalism & against slaver-ism. Mostly the African and South American countries. On his life journey, he joined with Fidel Castro and fought for Cuba revolution. They won the revolution war came to power in Cuba. The first foremost interest Che Guvera shown after the revolution was about “EDUCATION”, he also set an example as a good reader of books, all through the war he carried lot of books with him & kept exploring those.

With special attention, Che Guvera himself took Education reponsibilities of Cuba and written books himself for the schools. His contribution work  paying back to the country Cuba in achieving Agriculture and Medical revolution! After Cuba mission, Che Guvera wanted to fight for the revolution in African continent, country like Congo.

During last days of his fighting in Congo, He was shot and caught by the Congo force with his two aids, he was put in a dark room tied, the next day morning when forces opened and wake him up, Che Guvera asked,  what place is this? looks dirty and no cleaned for months! The forces answered, this is a school.

The immediate reply from  Che Guvera was that..If I come to power again, my first job will be to build this school nicely!.

Well, Why am I saying this here? There is a strong relation between Advesa’s mission and Che Guvera’s thirst for providing good education. Advesa achieving this mission through libraries, providing the golden opportunity for the children of underprivileged & rural community. Ending the story session, I ended my story telling with a single line message  to the children..whichwas……

Education! Education! Education!  If you want to change your social status?  Read! Read! Read!

A note: My tiny company Platinbill Solutions is celebrating its 10th anniversary on 01.05.2011, Hence as a social responsibility, I have decided that I should buy two sets of children book collections to donate to two elementary schools located nearby my village.
1)  Government elementary school, Ambharishapuram, Arakkonam
2)  Government elementary school, Mosur, Arakkonam

As well, I take a privilege to invite and suggest you to reach to the communities nearby, in turn establish children Libraries. Also volunteer with Advesa Charitable Trust and sponsor for rural children developments!

  1. Thanks for the appreciation Devarajan. As you mentioned in your story when you think for good, good happens always, somehow! Glad we got to know you.

  2. Madam!
    It’s a Very True Statement.
A day before at 9.00 PM a girl in Shanti colony main road was struggling to start her TVS scooty. I took initiative and stopped to ask her if she needs a help.

Luckily, on my first kick her bike started. :).

Well, to match the quote "Doing good things gets you good things". The next day morning I was riding my bike to office, first time in my life, a girl riding a scooty synced with my speed and said ..sir please put your side stand properly.

    That is life.

    Thanks for the comments.
