Awake! Awake!! Awake!!! Grow! Sustain!! Nature!!!
As I write this article sitting in Chennai, my thoughts and solidarity lies with the nature challenged Japanese people. Since the moment my email was alerted with USGS ENS an automatic US Geological Survey http://www.usgs.gov alert message. It was an unusual messages which were very frequently arrived at my inbox, then I turned myself to international news websites.
Since then I am visiting and updating myself about the latest news about concurrent consequences of powerful Earthquake, Tsunami, Nuclear plant complete shutdown, breakdown, Radiations & Rescue operations with snow fall.
The so powerful economy, a land well known for scientist and technologies, itself struggling a lot. Though they look like not expressing the anger against nature & the happenings, they are very matured in complaining, adhering to the discipline, system, positive attitude & reacting actively to the present situation.
But, looking at human point of view and as an individual, the suffer each of them experiencing now is very grave. The nature made all technologies, safety measures and backup systems to fail completely. At ground level the immediate need is Food, Shelter & Health. A basic need of every human being.
Dollars, Donations, even any other material which has virtual value is nothing compare to the actual demand which is a meal, shelter & health condition.
Though supplies are being carried, it is evident that devastated infrastructure proving difficult to reach them who is in real need. Including the administrative officials, who themselves are affected badly by missing families, but everyone of them trying very hard to address the situation.
Look at the Fukushima Daiichi plant breakdown. There, everything is happening which should not happen as per the manuals and white papers.
But, my thought and sympathy is not just stopping here. My mind is twinkling around the future of human society & How to address natural calamities with different approach.?
Not alone the Japan earthquake, but many other natural calamities have proved that the Human needs and demands are not just as used to be just after the incidents! Events prove that addressing such incidents by administrative’s are very challenging, beyond the way of general practice & predictions.
But to address such serious issues, we need to give special attention and a different approach. I am trying here to list out it for future consideration
1) Food
Milk, Package food, Essential Provisions & Cook Vessels.
2) Shelter:
Safety Community Hall at each branch of administration, ready to use housing structures, cloths, bedsheets, communication facilities. But all with independent of electricity power.
3) Medical:
Educated doctor for every 100 people, Medical supplies & to control immutable deceases. As per index India has only 1 doctor for every 2000 people, the highest is USA having 1 Doctor for every 200 people. This ratio also widely differs between state to state, specially rural population where the penetration of doctors are very low.
4) Power:
Emergency Gas Lamps, Candles, Solar Power, Emergency Generators with solid backup to provide public lighting, Gasoline, Petrol(Handling fuel stocks needs a multiple back up systems).
5) Defense Personals:
All defense personals shall be trained to address all type of calamities. All of them should be trained fair enough to Operate Trains, Flights, Trucks, Operate Electricity, Provide Medical help & Speak common language.
6)Nuclear Lessons:
The episode of Fukushima Daiichi proving that radiation disaster is more than everything else happened after earthquake. The so called IAEA, UN & Super power nations kept quite about the plant failure and none have taken serious steps to address the situation. The Episode proved that the last 50, later 180 brave personals who were in suicide attempt in getting back the radiation in control for several days. still fighting.
It was shame that so called World Nuclear Scientists have failed to address anything about the nuclear disaster except giving warning and reports. It is becoming strongly evident that, not to depend too much on Nuclear power stations, instead become dependent with conventional energies. Slow down the usage demand.
7)World Disaster Recovery Force(International Army)
The UN and G7 nations have now shifted their focus to Libya and support the separatists with full swing. Where as the immediate recovery support is hardly visible from the international community except some material support. US ships had ran away after detecting radiations very long distance, even before the Daiichi episode was becoming large.
Though the Red Cross is proving their role, I am afraid, Red cross cannot deploy powerful recovery specialists and provide support with speed and with it’s own infrastructure. In any case they have to completely depend on the s
haken administration for using infrastructure.
So, it is very essential to form Wold Disaster Recovery Organization, include all the countries of this earth, irrespective of UN membership & no UN role. Form a strong recovery army to address the crisis with speed and sophisticated recovery system. Yes, my belief is that having such World Disaster Recovery Force can be very effective in addressing such situations. I hope very soon we will have this so.
8)Donations
I think internationally the Red cross is a solid organization addressing disaster, they facilitate providing essentials to affected regions. To support and donate the Red Cross, I am recommending a link of where one can contribute and help those in need. Also witness Google Crisis Response website product, a useful tool which could help crisis.
